Family-Owned Businesses

Multi-Generational Advice and Planning

Because our attorneys have expertise in a variety of disciplines, we are able to provide a wide range of advice to family-owned businesses.

We work with family business owners for successful operations and succession planning, and we represent high net-worth families and closely-held entities for effective legal management of their multi-generational transition planning.

In addition, we work well with accountants and financial planners to wholly support our family business clients.

Our attorneys provide a broad range of services for these clients, including forming business entities, advising on governance issues and regulatory compliance, real estate acquisitions and sales, preparing trusts and estate planning, counseling on financial and tax aspects of gifting and transferring assets to the next generation (whether family or employees), developing strategic plans to balance business and family goals, acquiring and selling real property, and resolving business challenges caused by family disputes.

We regularly speak to groups on the importance of estate and succession planning to be considered for families and family-held businesses, including the renowned Oregon State University Austin Family Business 360 Program.

Preserving the family legacy as reflected in the family business is one of the lawyer's highest callings. We recognize the entrepreneurial risks taken by the older generation to create the rewards for that generation and those that follow. Expertly facilitating ongoing management and efficient ownership transition to the next generation is very satisfying to me as a valued member of the business advisory team. - FWW Attorney Dean T.
