Law Practice

Since 1984 Dean has handled a broad range of banking, business, intellectual property and succession planning matters for financial service providers, businesses, and individuals. His extensive experience allows him to provide practical legal solutions to business and succession planning needs and effectively protect clients' interests and assets.

For financial service providers he offers advice on complex loan documentation, regulatory compliance, and other lending and operational matters. He provides businesses with comprehensive advice on choice of entity, property acquisitions, licensing, employment, intellectual property including trademark and copyright work, and retirement and succession planning.

For individuals his practice focuses on estate planning based on wills and trusts, estate tax planning, probate, and planning for disabilities. Dean provides meaningful and efficient services to individuals and families to facilitate management of their assets during lifetime, during incapacitation, and at and after death.

Financial Services - Dean represents numerous regional and community-based financial service providers in all facets of operations, lending, collections and workouts.

Succession Planning - Structuring with businesses for succession plan for owners. Representation of high net-worth families and closely-held entities for succession planning.

Intellectual Property - Dean represents numerous businesses in protecting registration and licensing of intellectual property assets.

Hotels and Hospitality - Dean has represented purchasers, sellers, investors, lenders, and operators in a wide variety of transactions involving hotel facilities. This gives him a unique perspective into the issues facing all sides in a transaction. He has experience dealing with the many legal concerns affecting hospitality clients including entity formation, financial transactions, real estate lending, intellectual property, employment, and succession planning.

Speaking Engagements

Dean is a frequent speaker before financial institution personnel and other trade groups. He also presents estate planning seminars on a regular basis for individuals and businesses. Dean has also been a speaker on probate administration for the Oregon Law Institute.

Personal

Dean has been married since 1977. He and his wife have an adult son and daughter. Dean enjoys spending time with his family houseboating, traveling, camping, and flying.
