Gustavo (“Tavo”) J. Cruz, Jr. has been elected Chair of the Board of Commissioners for Prosper Portland (fka the Portland Development Commission). Prosper Portland commissioners are nominated by Portland’s Mayor and approved by the City Council. Tavo has been a Commissioner since 2015, and he brings more than 30 years of business experience and law practice to the Board.

Prosper Portland was founded in May, 1958, and is the economic and urban development agency for the City of Portland. Its mission is to build an equitable and inclusive economy for Portland, through growth in family-wage jobs, advancing opportunities for prosperity, collaborating with partners for an equitable city, and creating vibrant neighborhoods and communities.
Tavo’s law practice focuses on commercial finance and other business transactions. He has extensive experience in both private practice and as in-house counsel, and has handled negotiation and documentation of commercial loan transactions, distressed loans and work-outs, securities offerings, mergers and acquisitions, real estate transactions and other business matters. He is a native of Portland, Oregon, and a graduate of the University of Oregon and Lewis and Clark Law School.
